CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

New Work Scotland Programme (NWSP) is a Collective Gallery initiative aimed at giving recent, Scottish based graduates their first significant exhibition opportunity. NWSP identifies and supports, through a policy of open application, some of the most promising new artists and writers working in Scotland. Selected candidates will each receive a commissioning fee of £600. The programme will run from September through to December 2008.
ELIGIBILITY is for artists & writers in:
· either their final year (undergraduate or postgraduate) at a Scottish art college/ university
· or Scottish based artists/writers who are up to three years out of college.
ARTISTS Selected artists receive a solo exhibition utilising both galleries or a one-off performance event. Selectors: Suzanne Cotter (Senior Curator at Modern Art Oxford), Dr Simon Groom (Director of Modern and Contemporary for the National Galleries of Scotland), Mel Brimfield (artist and Associate Producer at Collective) and chaired by Kirsten Body (Collective).
WRITERS This year we have an exciting new format and are looking for one writer to act as Writer-in-Residence for NWSP, providing a commissioned text for each of the selected artists along with an active blog.

Artur Zmijewski
3 months of participatory Polish projects at the Collective Gallery.

The Collective is extending a welcome to Edinburgh's newly immigrated Polish community. During this season of exhibitions and events we hope to provide a platform for cross-cultural investigation, participation and collaboration.

Launching the season, we are delighted to present the first solo exhibition in Scotland from seminal Polish artist Artur Zmijewski, featuring his recent film Them as shown at Documenta 12.
PREVIEW: Friday 8th February, 7-9pm. All welcome.
EXHIBITION: 9th February until 22nd March.
This exhibition will be supported, through our One Mile Programme, by a series of collaborations between Polish and Scottish poets, writers, visual artists and musicians, every Thursday for the duration of the exhibition: Scottish/Polish Cultural Stimulation devised by Arek Kozak.
One Mile Film Club
A FREE film club: screening films which have been selected by artists involved in the One Mile Programme.

Tuesday 29th January, 6-8pm - Das Blaue Licht & The Century of the Self, Episode 3: There is a Policeman Inside All Our Heads: He Must Be Destroyed.' Selected by Kate Gray.

Tuesday 5th February, 6-8pm - Brazil. Selected by Freee.
Treat yourself to some mulled cider and popcorn, perfect for those wet winter nights.

Sunday Studio
Collective's Sunday Studio is an affordable workshop providing space for creativity.

Open to those with a lack of space/time/money to make art, or those who would just like to try out some social drawing.
We will provide space/tea/cake/music and materials.
The workshops will be from 2-4pm on Sundays: 27th January and 3rd February. Please email: jennyrichardshx@yahoo.co.uk if you would like more information or to book. £6 for 2 sessions, payable by cash or cheque.

An engage Scotland Interpretations Award

As part of a project looking at new ways of producing gallery interpretation, the Collective invited a panel of people to discuss three of our exhibitions.

If you missed Jason Nelson's show in December, you can now listen to three podcasts and hear the panel discuss the themes of the work.

6 month voluntary posts (usually 30 hours per week). £55 subsistence and training budget if supported through Project Scotland. This post can be adapted for those on New Deal. Duties include gallery invigilation, exhibition installation and day to day administration.
