Curatorial Strategies
 
Dr. Simon Groom, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
 
Simon Groom will discuss The Real Thing: Contemporary Art from China, a
major exhibition he curated at Tate Liverpool in 2007, to explore and
illustrate the strategies curators employ when they are researching and
developing major international exhibitions within museum and institutional
contexts.
 
Simon Groom studied English Literature at Edinburgh University and has
worked and lived in Japan and Italy. In 1999 he completed a Doctorate in Art
History at the Courtauld Institute of Art. He was curator at Kettle’s Yard,
Cambridge and, in 2003, was appointed Head of Exhibitions at Tate Liverpool,
where he curated numerous exhibitions and led Tate’s Asian acquisition
strategy. In 2007 he was appointed Director of Modern and Contemporary Art,
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh.
